More from Bangkok (4/2/14)

This post is a day late as it failed yesterday.

I did manage to get to the Grand Palace today which is also known as TheTemple Of The Emerald Buddha don't you know. There's gold absolutely everywhere. I bought a book mum because I know you'll have questions. AND I went to see Wat Pho which is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok, dating from the 16th century. I do think dating for that long is a bit much though. It really should have settled down by now, and maybe had a couple of little templets. AND I saw the reclining Bhudda which is 46m long and 15m high and other dimensions as well. Boom, fact blog!

Time today seemed to stand still. I was constantly checking my watch thinking I had to get a wriggle on to make sure I had enough time to do things and it barely moved. I can't believe I got all that done. It was nice to relax and just plod along at my pace. However, the maps lie though. What looks like a 10 minute walk is actually about half an hour and what looks more is less. Can someone explain that please. I don't get it. Tell me hmm. Why, why? As a result I had to get cabs and trains most places which meant I spent more than I wanted. Trains are cheap but when you're getting nowhere trying to walk to the station you end up getting a cab to them too. I did go in a tuc tuc though. That was awesome. They're quicker than I expected. And you've got other bikes and cars diving in front of you, across you, at you it's mental. But you somehow feel perfectly safe. I ate a massive meal for 4 quid. Got myself in the middle of the rallies, that are on the news at the moment, by accident. That was a little worrying. But no sooner was I in the middle of people cheering at the person with the microphone, than I was out of it by ducking into a shopping mall. Straight through a metal detector arch with security having my bag checked. The guy looked inside, saw my copy of lonely planet, laughed and waved me on. Had a walk around the shops. Things ARE cheaper but not as much as I expected.  All that has knackered me out today. Especially with the jet lag. Hoping to get an early night tonight as got to be up at 3 just to make sure I get to the airport on time. Here's some photos of the day. Don't forget the comp. Dimi you won round one.
