The big day had arrived. The day I wore my suit. No just kidding it's 'MOLLY AND BRENDAN'S WEDDING DAY' (queue the trumpet fanfare). I awoke to the sound of thunder and rain which was not a good start. The ceremony wasn't till 3pm so hopefully it would clear up by then. That, however, gave me plenty of time to choose a shirt and tie combo with the help of my Aunt and Uncle and to iron the chosen shirt. I had a late breakfast and we all had a small snack for lunch as we wouldn't get a chance to eat till the evening reception. Fortunately the weather did clear up and it turned into a beautifully sunny afternoon. We went down to Brendan's at 1.30pm to see how they were getting on and Brendan, Phil, also his best man, and his best mate Clint, also a Groom's man, we just about ready. Their wedding "car" an old split screen VW camper was already there and it looked awesome, and perfect for a wedding car. After a few photos outside the three lads got in the VW and we followed them to the wedding venue. The seating for the guests and the drinks table had already been set up and the three women that made up the orchestra were just arriving. It looked spectacular with the view behind it all. Slowly all the guests arrived and filled the seats while the orchestra played, and I said hello to those I knew. I stood at the back with a couple of the lads from last nights get together to take some photos. Eventually Molly turned up in her limousine with the bridesmaids and one by one they walked down the aisle, to the orchestra playing Pachebel's Cannon, the bridesmaids joining up with the best man and groomsman before the bride appeared accompanied by her Dad Brian. Molly...looked...stunning, and her dress was perfect. The ceremony took place with a few of the women crying, as usual, and before long Molly and Brendan were announced as Husband and Wife. We all sat while they signed the register and then we all queued up to congratulate them before grabbing a glass of champagne from the drinks table. We stayed at the venue for some photos for about an hour afterwards and there were plenty of drinks to be had by all. The evening reception wasn't going to start until about 6pm so once everyone disappeared to find a pub to stop in for the time being, Sandra, Geoff and I went back to some friends of theirs that lived nearby for a cup of tea and a chin wag. By the time we got to the reception venue a lot of guests had already arrived. The venue was the Indiana Tea House on Cottesloe Beach. This is where the sculpture by the sea exhibit was a few days ago. Inside is a beautifully decorated restaurant and bar with a very modern vibe and out the back is a stunning view of the Indian Ocean, Cottesloe beach and some amazing sunsets, and it was ours for the night. The bar was a free bar, as long as you were drinking beer or wine, and I wasted no time trying the two very different beers on tap . I couldn't decide which beer was better so alternated between them most of the evening. I spent some time catching up with the people I knew while Molly and Brendan had some photos on the beach and then everyone sat down for the evening meal about 6.45pm. Geoff & Sandra, and Brian & Leanne came in with a bit of an entrance followed by the best man and the groomsman each with a bridesmaid before the much awaited Bride and Groom arrived. Just after they arrived I borrowed the DJ's Ipad and skyped Emma at work so she could say hello to them quickly and congratulate them. In between the evening meal, which was really tasty, speeches were made which were all brilliant and they all had us crying with laughter at some point or other. During the meal I also skyped my parents so they could say hello too and I went round the room for them to say hello to all the people they knew and catch up with them. The first dance took place as the dessert was being served and everyone crowded round the dance floor. After this though the party began. And after many beers I can safely say I held my own on the dance floor. At least from my point of view that's how it looked. I'm sure from everyone else's though it looked quite different. Needless to say I had an amazing time and had a great laugh with all their mates. It was exactly as weddings should be. I'm really glad I could be here for it and could share the day with them.
Brendan and Molly I hope you have an amazing life together. You're perfect for each other and will make great parents one day. I wish you all the love and luck and happiness in the world and thank you for inviting me to your wedding. It was legendary.
The evening finished about midnight and once I'd retrieved my waistcoat from Clint, who had turned it inside out and spent the evening dancing in it, drenching it in sweat, Sandra drove me and Geoff home. We both fell asleep in the car and so when I awoke we had magically appeared in the driveway at home. I had just enough co-ordination to eat some of the wedding cake before heading to bed. What a night!
